Best Wedding Photography in 2017 and 2016
Wed, Jan 03 2018

It’s the beginning of a new year and for a while I have been meaning to start sorting through all of my images and build up a brand new wedding photography portfolio for my website. So for 2018 we start of with some of my all time favourites from the last couple of years. Some images stood out the moment I took them and I knew they would make the list. Others, matured over time as I skimmed through the 50,000+ photos I have taken in the just the last two years (and thats only counting the wedding photos). I still have at least another 14 years worth to look through over the coming months, so keep an eye out for some old favourites.

Some, however, were an unexpected surprise when I looked at them from a different perspective. I have generally considered myself to be a photographer who produces natural looking images, but in recent years filters and effects have become very popular. Through experimenting and developing my own techniques, some images developed into something more than what was seen at a first glance. I am not sure how long this fashion will last, but when carefully applied to the right image I think they do look great, but it’s important to have a good image to start with!

The last couple of years have been wonderful and I have been lucky enough to visit some of the most beautiful places in the UK for weddings (and a few have been for the first time). It’s been an amazing time for travel too, with weddings in Oman, Spain, London, Cornwall and Singapore to name but a few. One of the best things about being a wedding photographer is the amount of travelling I get to do each year, often visiting places you would not think of; or can’t even visit unless you are invited to a wedding.

2018 is already mapped out with some wonderful locations including Spain and Ireland, and I cannot wait to see what this year has in store. I have set myself some pretty ambitious goals for the next 12 months and it will be interesting to see where this takes me. The first being to completely refresh all the images on my website and build a strong portfolio of wedding photography that I can be proud of. I’m also taking some time to work on social media (which I have avoided in the past). I’m discovering that it is a good way to judge what type of pictures people are looking for. You can follow my wedding photography on Instagram by clicking here.

My travel photography is going to take a new direction too (I’m taking it seriously again). Along with a brand new website and new Instagram account, I’ve signed up to the National Geographic Your Shot website to further develop my skills and my aim is to get something published this year. It’s a tough challenge as the standard of talent out there is truly inspiring, if nothing else it will push me to improve my photography.

So, that's it from me and if you have managed to read this far, a huge thank you to the wonderful people I have met and become friends with over the years. I am truly thankful to those who invited me to be part of their wedding. Here is to 2018 being an amazing year for wedding photography and congratulations to all those happy couples, see you soon.
